Technical Data
Other applications include: as a haemostatic agent when people cut themselves while shaving. It binds to proteins in the damaged skin and causes them to contract (astringent effect), stopping the bleeding. It is used as an antiperspirant in deodorants, as alum flakes in shoes to combat sweaty feet, to disinfect wounds (it was and is still used by some as aftershave), to relieve sore throats or mouth ulcers, and much more.
