    Technical Data

Patination is the application of an oxidation layer to metal objects (bronze, copper, brass, iron, aluminium). This can be done either cold or hot.

Please note: the same patina gives a different result on each metal.

Cold patinas are applied with a brush or cloth, or by immersion. Allow each layer to air dry. Once you have achieved the desired colour, rinse the object with water.

With the “hot” method, we heat the sculpture with a strong flame. We then apply the chemicals with a brush or cloth. Due to the high temperature, the bronze reacts immediately to the chemicals and a layer forms on the bronze.

To add shine and protect the patina, the sculpture is finished with a layer of wax.
