Carnauba wax is a natural, plant-based wax extracted from the leaves of the Copernicia prunifera palm, native to north-eastern Brazil. It is known as the ‘queen of waxes’ due to its high melting point, making it ideal for heat-resistant applications such as lip balms and eyeliners.

Technical Data

Carnauba wax has a glossy appearance and is used in food, cosmetics and industry. It offers a unique combination of properties, such as water repellency, protection, shine and texture enhancement, making it a popular choice for DIY products and professional care products.

In industry, carnauba wax is used to release moulds used to make polyester components, for example. This prevents the polyester from adhering to the (wooden or plastic) mould.

It is virtually insoluble in water, soluble in ethyl acetate and xylene when heated, and virtually insoluble in ethanol.
