Technical Data
Bister is a colour pigment made from the soot and tar of burnt wood or shellac, or the ground bark of walnuts and gum arabic. It can be used not only for drawing, but also for staining furniture or wooden floors. Bister is not lightfast and dissolves easily in water. Sketches made in bister therefore remain sensitive to water and gradually fade when exposed to sunlight.
